'71 Honda CT70H - "Before" and "After" Slideshow

Erick found out about these vintage mini's in Pinnacle, North Carolina about a month before our planned trip to Asheville to ride in the USCRA Fall Motogiro. It was a slam-dunk, we would just pick them up on our way home. Route planned, hotel reservations made, coolers packed... Then hurricane Joaquin took aim at North Carolina. Trip cancelled. CT70H and Z50 stranded. Well we couldn't just leave them there, and Chuck's wife had never been to Pinnacle, NC so they made the trip the following weekend. Met the owner and his wife at a beautiful property in view of Pilot Mountain. Nice folks.

Made our way back home the next day after an overnight in Mount Airy, NC which is the home of Andy Griffith and the town that Mayberry was based on. Sure enough, had that small town feel. Only seats for dinner were two at the amply-sized bar at the Sagebrush Steakhouse which I recommend without hesitation. We were quickly accepted as Andy Griffith followers likely due to our age, and enjoyed great conversation and dinner. Unloaded the 1970 Z50 and 1971 CT70HK0 on Sunday and took some pretty uncomplimentary pictures of them still dressed in a good coat of 30-year-old North Carolina red clay.

These will have to wait for a month or so before they get the full treatment, but we just couldn't store them that dirty, so they got a good wash-n-dry on a nice October day in Cleveland, and everyone felt better. These are complete and original, and we got them from the family that bought them new. We will likely just get them back to mechanically sound, have a little fun with them ourselves, then get them into the hands of someone who will restore them, or some lucky kids!
